What We Do

The Power of Home

No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life, to feel strong and stable, and to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures.

Siouxland Habitat supports our neighbors to achieve this strength and independence through homeownership. Every day, we see how quality, affordable housing replaces people’s struggles to keep a sturdy roof over their heads with opportunities to build healthy, prosperous futures. This impact is transformational not just for individuals, but for our entire community – fighting poverty, revitalizing neighborhoods, strengthening our economy, and creating stability for the next generation.

We started our work in Siouxland in 1992 lead by a group of dedicated volunteers who shared a vision to help local hard-working, low-income families help themselves create strength, stability, and self-reliance. While our main office is located in Northwest Iowa, we serve five counties in three states.

  • Plymouth, Sioux, Woodbury Counties in Iowa
  • Union County in South Dakota
  • Dakota County in Nebraska

The Habitat Model

Habitat believes in providing families a ‘hand up’ and not a ‘hand out’.

Habitat for Humanity is known throughout the world for its unique “partnership housing” model that founder Millard Fuller envisioned, where volunteers work alongside the families who will own the completed homes to make a lasting change in their communities. Habitat homeowners build in partnership by completing sweat equity hours, and attend extensive home ownership classes.

By working together with volunteers, congregations, corporations, individual supporters, and homeowner families, we nurture family stability, vital neighborhoods, and a vibrant communities.
