At this time,Siouxland Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting applications for its Home Repair Program in Sioux County ONLY.
The purpose of this program is to help homeowners maintain their homes and keep their community thriving. This program offers needed home maintenance and repair to existing homeowners who meet income eligibility guidelines. The program's focus is exterior work and accessibility to preserve your home and your ability to live in the home.
1- Projects can include:
- Accessibility modifications like ramps, level handles, and door modifications
- Roof and porch repair/replacement
- Siding/soffit repair and painting
- Driveway and sidewalk repair
- Landscaping and tree trimming
3- Eligibility:
3.1 - Families are selected based on 3 criteria:
- Need for Improved Housing
- Ability to Pay an Affordable Home Repair Loan
- Willingness to Partner
3.2 - Need for Improved Housing:
- Household area median income (AMI) must be below 60%. (see table below)
- Exterior house materials are deteriorating or not in sound condition.
- Exterior house conditions limit the accessibility or pose a safety risk to the homeowner.
3.3 - Ability to Pay:
- Homeowner must have sufficient income to make a monthly loan payment.
3.4 - Willingness to Partner:
- Families are required to complete 8 hours of sweat equity (volunteer labor) by the completion of the repair project. This may include assisting with the home repair, working on a partner's family build site, or helping with a Habitat event.
2- How It Works:
Labor is offered at no cost to the homeowners. Materials are paid for by the homeowner through a 0% interest loan. The scope of work is defined by Siouxland Habitat for Humanity and agreed on by both parties before the work begins. As with all Habitat builds, projects will be approved based on need, willingness to partner, and ability to pay. Availability of volunteers and resources will also affect the selection and time frame of projects.
