About Us » Committees

If you are interested in joining any of these committees, contact the committee chairs at the email addresses or phone number provided. Please check the Events and Meetings Calendar for Committee meeting dates and locations.

Church Relations Chair: Jen Engle jengle@pdrsiouxcity.com
The purpose of this committee is to establish and maintain partnerships with Churches. People are needed to present Habitat's message to church leaders and groups and to encourage active participation in our ministry. Churches of all sizes can put their faith into action. Help! We need someone to lead this committee. If you are interested volunteering contact Kyle Mullenix (kylenix1@juno.com).

Family Selection / Nurturing Chair: Carol Smith
This committee is made up of people who are willing to interview and work with families who have made application to be a partner family with Habitat. These people will verify that the applicant families meet the criteria established for home ownership. Also will work with partner families both before and after construction to be sure that the families know what is required in the area of sweat equity, to provide a record of that time requirement, and to help in the transition of true home ownership. These mentors may also help the families in the areas of budgeting and home maintenance. Contact:

Site Selection Chair: Ron Speckman rons@fehsc.com
People on this committee identify potential sites for construction. This includes working with local government officials on acquiring land and lots for building, water and sewer hookups and working with the Construction Committee to be sure lots are buildable. Those who like to dabble in real estate would be natural members.

Building Chair: Kent Lindsay klindsay@dybb.com
These people are regular volunteers at the work site that are willing to evaluate our construction process and make suggestions on ways to improve. Willingness and patience to mentor or give direction to a diverse group of volunteers is also an asset. This can include people who know building codes, carpenters, concrete workers, plumbers, electricians, etc.

Public Relations / Fund Raising Chair: Lisa Peterson lisapeterson@heidmanlaw.com
People who can write articles for newsletters, and/or would like to work with local media are needed for this committee. Persons interested in volunteering on this committee may also speak to groups about our projects and mission. People on this committee help the affiliate "get the word out." The fund raising side needs people to identify and approach potential donors (individual, church, corporate) for either cash or "in-kind" gifts of material, labor, property, or support. This committee also needs people who can develop fund-raising material and help with grant writing.

Volunteer Relations Chair: Jane Schwarz jane@bjschwarz.com
The people who serve on this committee help organize and contact other volunteers to set up time and places to work. This group also keeps track of volunteer hours, and sets criteria for volunteer recognition.
